What is a Blog?
OK, the basics: a Blog is an area or page posted on the Web and used to share information, insight, ideas, events, comments - even video and graphical content - on areas of interest. Originally used by individuals and interest groups, Technorati (the Blog search engine) now puts the number of Blogs at some 60 million! That's far too many to be ignored...
I think initially, Blogging was seen as the arena for advanced Internet users, some more self-indulgent individuals and shared interest groups. It’s come a long way from those early days, but despite over 1.6m new postings each day, the vast majority are STILL personal based.
Corporate Blogs however, remain an emerging phenomenon - estimated to make up just 5% of the numbers - but this new wave of Bloggers are often Professionals, Consultants, Academics, Entrepreneurs and some larger companies. This is a whole new demographic, offering fresh and professional sources of insights, ideas and useful information (which was the whole point of the Internet in the first place) and herein could lay the marketing opportunity for your business.
